Localisation cases
I adapted product cards for Chinese clients on the Russian marketplace "Ozon". I had it my goal to turn "alien" into "exotic", and familiarise a Russian consumer with new items by creating a strong selling SEO text

1
Case one: spicy kelp snack, harnessing the latiao frenzy to our benefit
The Impact
Before vs After
  • Not authentic language
  • Recognizable title format
  • Unfamiliar format
  • Relevant accentuation (positive “пикантный” instead of negative“острый”, KSP “хайнаньский перец”)
  • Few or no keywords or trends
  • Keywords and trends (китайские снеки)
  • Incorrect accentuation (“острый” is not seen as and advantage in Russian culture)
Writing a well-thought-out SEO text, tailored to the target audience

2
Case two: selling an eerie osmanthus cake, appealing to familiar concepts
The Impact
Before vs After
  • Not logical title which comes across as badly translated, funny and untrustworthy
  • Recognizable, trustworthy title format (product, number, peculiarities)
  • Badly translated picture text sounds not logical and unattractive (“old Shanghai aroma” means something is spoilt, “Shanghai” does not give any reference)
  • Picture text introduces the unfamiliar product by associating it with Chinese New Year, familiar to Russians
  • No relevant keywords
  • Picture text introduces the unfamiliar product by associating it with Chinese New Year, familiar to Russians
I would be happy to cooperate with you…
  • To make a bridge between our cultures
  • To help you enter the Russian (or other) market successfully
  • To boost your net profit
  • To introduce new products to a Russian consumer
